Shotokan Karate Kata Videos

Katas are an essential part of training in Shotokan Karate.

A kata is made up of a sequence of basic moves consisting of punches, strikes, blocks and kicks.

Each grade has its own kata which the student must learn and be able to demonstrate to an acceptable standard before it is possible to move to the next grade.

The videos featured on this website will give you an idea about how they are put together, but please don't copy as they may be different from way we practise them. Why is that? Well - katas change and evolve over time, so the videos may be out of date. Also, the way katas are taught - although broadly similar - varies according the style, club or association.

The only true way to learn your kata is from your Sensei.
