Sensei Ady Gray (5th Dan)Sensei Ady Gray 5th Dan is the founder and Chief Instructor of the Byakko Shotokan Karate Association and started the Easingwold club in 2003 before later handing over to Sensei Grahame.
Sensei Ady began karate with Shotokan Karate International (SKI) in 1978. He went on to achieve his 1st Dan black belt from Japanese master Asano Sensei (9th Dan) in 1985.
His training resumé is impressive, having studied with some of the world’s top karate-ka, including Sensei Hazard (7th Dan), Sensei Seto (7th Dan), JKA Sensei Sugimoto (6th Dan) and 9 times world kumite champion, Sensei Wayne Otto OBE. He has also studied in Japan on two separate occasions.
As a competitor, Sensei Ady has had success at numerous national and regional events, including a silver medal at the SKI National Championships.
Sensei Ady is particularly proud of his success as a coach. He has produced 9 national bronze medallists, 6 silver and one bronze British medallists and a string of regional winners.
His coaching achievements didn’t go unnoticed and he was honoured to be named as 1st North Yorkshire Sport Coach of the Year and nominated for the Sport England Coach of the Year 2004.
