Karate - challenging, rewarding, life-changing
Everyone gets something unique out of karate and Sensei Grahame Hunter ensures every lesson is fun, yet challenging enough to help you achieve your potential.

Self-Defence
The Shotokan style is the most explosive and widely practised form of karate in the world. As a means of self-defence, it is unbeatable. Students are taught about awareness, avoiding trouble, staying confident and in control and how to get out of awkward situations.

Respect
One of karate's central principles is respect for others. In the training room - known as the 'dojo' - all students are expected to listen to their instructor, and help each other to improve their knowledge and technique. When working with a partner, everything begins with a 'rei' - a traditional bow performed as a sign of, and a reminder to give and expect, respect.

Confidence
It makes sense that anyone who knows they can defend themselves physically will feel more confident and assertive in everyday life. But there are many other ways in which confidence grows. When new techniques are mastered, students feel a tremendous sense of achievement along with improved co-ordination, poise and positive self-image. Best of all, the improved self-esteem feeds upon itself. It's wonderful to see.

An amazing way to bond with your child
We have a number of parents and children who train alongside one another - and they love it! Karate puts both parent and child on an equal footing as they undertake the journey together. Mutual support and respect soon follow. It's a common interest that lasts forever. Why not give it a go? Your first lesson is free.

Concentration and Discipline
Karate students develop both without really realising it. By listening and concentrating, they become accustomed to the rules of the 'dojo' and as a result develop both physical and mental discipline. They're gently taught how to remain in control of their emotions, their reactions and the environment around them. Naturally, this spills over into everyday life.

Health and Fitness
Want to get fit and tone-up and actually look forward to doing it? Karate exercises all the body’s main muscle groups, gives an excellent cardio-vascular work-out and you’ll perform lots of stretching. You’ll begin at a level that suits your current fitness and, what’s more, you won’t even realise you’re doing it. No dreaded treadmills or weights here!

Weight-loss
An hour-long session of karate can burn off more than 600 calories. Do that twice a week, eat sensibly and watch the pounds fall off.

Academic Success
Yes really! Studies have shown that a positive side-effect of training in karate is the development of the brain region that contributes to success in general learning.

Make Friends
In karate, everyone is equal, and everyone is learning and supporting each other to reach the same end. It will come as no surprise that strong friendships are formed as a result.
